LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Keith
Jackson collected four hits and four runs batted in as the Northern
Kentucky University baseball team posted a 7-5 win over Bellarmine
in the first game of a doubleheader.
Kory Lonergan walked
four times and scored three runs for NKU, which jumped out to a
5-0 lead and held off a late Bellarmine rally. Bellarmine put runners
on second and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning,
but NKU reliever Steve Thomas stopped the rally and struck out Ryan
Kuhlman to end the game.
Conor McGeehan was 2-for-2
with an RBI in the opener for the Norse.
In the nightcap, Shawn
O’Dell’s run-scoring single with two out in the bottom
of the ninth inning gave Bellarmine a 6-5 victory and a split of
the doubleheader. O’Dell’s single down the right-field
line plated Rusty Farris with the winning run.
Bellarmine scored three
times in the bottom of the eighth to take a 5-4 lead, but a wild
pitch enabled NKU’s Josh Moulton to score in the top of the
ninth to tie the game at 5-5.
Moulton was 4-for-4
to lead NKU, which is 17-16 overall, 9-7 in the Great Lakes Valley
Conference. Lonergan collected three hits, while Matt Wagers added
two RBI.
NKU will hit the road
for a four-game series at Missouri-St. Louis this Saturday and Sunday.
