HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - After his consistency led to victory, Northern Kentucky University's Jack Ambrose was honored as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.

Ambrose was a steady force for the Norse offense, opening the weekend series against Quincy with a 2-for-3 performance with a run scored and a stolen base in Game 1's 3-2 victory. The senior followed up with an RBI-single to cap a two-run first inning en route to another 3-2 victory and a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.

Sunday's action saw the offense continue to fire on all cylinders, as Ambrose was 2-for-3 with a run and three RBIs in NKU's 14-4 rout in Game 1. Ambrose had an RBI-single in the third inning and a two-run double in the fifth inning. Game 2 saw Ambrose go 1-for-4 with two runs scored as the Norse fell, 9-6, to close out the series.

Ambrose hit .462 on the weekend, scoring four runs and driving in four more. His six-game hitting streak is the longest active streak on the team and ties a season best for the squad. He is hitting .333 on the season.

The honor marks NKU’s first GLVC Player of the Week honoree of 2009. Kevin Dusold earned the award in the final week of the 2008 regular season, going 10-for-21 against Southern Indiana and Saint Joseph’s.

NKU's (3-4) doubleheader against Tiffin has been pushed back from Tuesday to Friday with a noon first pitch.
