INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky University baseball player Evan McDole was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week after helping the Norse extend their season-best winning streak to nine games as announce by the league office on Monday.
McDole, a junior first-baseman from Cold Spring, Ky., helped NKU win all six games that he started on the week including a key four-game sweep of in-state rival Kentucky Wesleyan College. With a 17-12 victory in the first game of the KWC series, NKU (34-18, 18-10 GLVC) clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament to be held May 7-10 in Sauget, Ill.
McDole had an astonishing .571 batting average (12-for-27), scored 11 runs, collected 14 RBIs, and smashed four home runs and four doubles as NKU swept Urbana University and KWC.
The announcement on Monday afternoon marked the first time that McDole has won GLVC Player of the Week honors.
McDole currently leads the team in games started and played (50), runs scored (47), hits (62), doubles (17), home runs (15), RBIs (50), total bases (124), slugging percentage (.743), walks (33), and hit-by-pitches (10).
With McDole’s help, NKU is currently tied for the top spot in the GLVC East Division with the University of Indianapolis.
The Norse will be back in action this weekend as Missouri S&T come to town for a four-game series beginning on Saturday at noon. |
