MISSION, Kan. – The Northern Kentucky University men’s
soccer team jumped into the top five in this week’s NCAA
Division II national poll. The Norse vaulted three spots from their
preseason No. 8 ranking to No. 5 as selected by the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America.
Fort Lewis, the national
runner-up in 2006, jumped one position to No. 1 in the nation.
Massachusetts-Lowell
made the largest jump in this week’s poll, breaking in at
No. 3 after being unranked in the preseason poll.
Three other Great
Lakes Valley Conference teams – Southern
Illinois at Edwardsville (No. 7), Wisconsin-Parkside (No. 22),
and Lewis (No. 25) – are also in the national rankings.
NKU
began its season last week in the John Toebben Classic presented
by National City, picking up a 4-0 victory over West Virginia
Wesleyan and a 1-0 win against Truman State.
Braden Bishop picked
up three goals and one assist on the weekend, including the game-winning
penalty kick against Truman State. Chris Thompson chipped
in the game-winner against West Virginia Wesleyan. Nick Dressman,
a sophomore transfer from the University of Memphis, also added
a goal during the weekend.
