MISSION, Kan. – The Northern Kentucky University men’s
soccer team remained at No. 2 in this week’s NCAA Division
II national poll.
It is the second
consecutive week that NKU has been ranked No. 2. It is the highest
ranking
in the program’s
history.
The Norse posted a pair of wins over the weekend. NKU defeated
Ashland, 8-2. on Friday, thanks to hat tricks from Tony Ray and
Steven Beattie. The Norse took a 1-0 decision Sunday from Bellarmine
as NKU outshot the Knights by a 29-3 margin and freshman Michael
Lavric picked up his third shutout on the year. Steven Beattie
scored four goals in the two games, including both winning goals,
earning him Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors.
Lynn
(Fla.) remained in the nation’s top spot for the second
consecutive week.
GLVC members Rockhurst (No. 11) and Southern Illinois
at Edwardsville (No. 21) each gained spots in the national poll.
NKU
(8-0, 3-0 GLVC) returns to GLVC play this weekend, traveling
to face Missouri-Rolla on Friday and Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday.
