ST. LOUIS – The Northern Kentucky University men’s
soccer team defeated Missouri-St. Louis, 2-0, in Great Lakes Valley
Conference play Sunday afternoon.
Steven Beattie converted
a penalty kick in the 15th minute to give the Norse, ranked No.
2 nationally
in the NCAA Division II poll,
the early one-goal lead. It was the freshman’s sixth goal
of the season. Braden Bishop scored his team-leading seventh goal
of the year in the 36th minute to put the game away, finishing
off a Jason Larkin cross for the insurance marker.
The Norse (10-0,
5-0 GLVC) once again dominated the pace of play, outshooting
the Tritons 15-5 in the contest. Andy Ortman started
and recorded the win in net, making two saves for his 14th career
shutout. Fouls were even in the contest, with each team whistled
for nine infractions.
NKU returns home for a pair of GLVC games
next weekend, beginning with a 7:30 p.m. Friday contest against
defending GLVC champion
Southern Illinois at Edwardsville. The Norse entertain Quincy
on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. BOX
