INDIANAPOLIS – For the second consecutive Monday, a member of the Northern Kentucky University men’s soccer team has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week as sophomore Braden Bishop earned the honor from the league office.

Bishop, a native of Centerville, Ohio, scored a goal in each of NKU’s games, helping to solidify a pair of wins for the Norse. Against Missouri-Rolla on Friday, Bishop made the most of his only shot, taking a crossing pass in the 67th minute and scoring during the Norse’s 3-0 victory over the Miners.

In Sunday’s 2-0 triumph over Missouri-St. Louis, Bishop scored NKU’s insurance goal in the 36th minute for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Bishop, the 2006 GLVC Freshman of the Year, also has two assists this season and leads the team in total points (16).

Steven Beattie was named GLVC Player of the Week last Monday after posting a hat trick against Ashland, followed by the game-winning goal against Bellarmine.

NKU (10-0 overall, 5-0 GLVC) returns to action Friday when it hosts defending GLVC champion Southern Illinois at Edwardsville. Last season, NKU and SIUE battled to a 1-1 draw in their regular-season meeting before the Norse took a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory to capture the NCAA Great Lakes Regional title.
