INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has named Northern Kentucky University as the host for the men’s soccer Division II Great Lakes Regional.

The 32-team field was announced Monday, with NKU ranked as the No. 1 seed in the Great Lakes Region. The Norse will take on the No. 4 seed Gannon, champions of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, in a semifinal game Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Gannon holds the all-time series lead against NKU, 4-2, with the Norse taking the last meeting, a 1-0 decision in Wilder, Ky.

No. 2 seed Lewis, which handed NKU its first loss of the season in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship, will take on No. 3 Southern Illinois at Edwardsville on Friday evening, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.

The regional championship will be contested Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., with the Great Lakes Region champion hosting the champion of the Appalachian Region next weekend. The winner moves on to the NCAA Division II national semifinals in Orange Beach, Ala., on Nov. 30.

NKU, the nation’s top-ranked team entering last weekend’s GLVC Tournament, must rebound from a 1-0 loss at the hands of the Flyers. It was the first loss for the Norse in almost a full year’s time, dating back to last year’s NCAA national quarterfinal loss to Lincoln Memorial on Nov. 12, 2006.
