HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University
men’s soccer team dropped nine spots in this week’s
NCAA Division II soccer poll, falling from No. 1 in the nation
to No. 10 in the latest rankings.
A winless weekend in Great Lakes
Valley Conference action, including a 3-2 overtime loss to Drury
(now No. 7), snapping a 19-game road
winning streak, and a scoreless draw against Rockhurst (now No.
19), factored into the fall for the Norse (7-1-1, 3-1-1 GLVC).
NKU goalkeeper Michael Lavric set a career mark against Rockhurst,
making seven saves to preserve the shutout.
The Norse spent
the last three weeks as the nation’s top-ranked
team.
Lynn (Fla.) is No. 1 in the latest poll, with Midwestern State
(Texas), Fort Lewis (Colo.), Southern New Hampshire and Lees-McRae
(N.C.) rounding out the top five.
GLVC foe Lewis
was among others receiving votes in this week’s
poll.
The new ranking
marks NKU’s 19th consecutive week as
a top-10 team, and the 26th straight time the Norse have been included
in
the national poll.
The Norse look
to return to their winning ways this Sunday when they host Saint
Joseph’s
to open a three-game GLVC homestand. The following weekend NKU
will welcome Missouri-St.
Louis (on Oct.
10) and Southern Indiana (on Oct. 12). |
