All-GLVC
Team
INDIANAPOLIS – Three Northern Kentucky University women’s
soccer players were selected to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference
teams, the league office announced on Thursday.
Midfielder Brandi
Doss landed on the All-GLVC first team, while forward Amanda Mason
was named to the second team and forward Lauren Franzen
was selected to the third team.
Doss, a junior from Harrison, Ohio,
has notched 10 assists against GLVC opponents to lead the league
in that category. Overall, Doss
has 13 assists on the season, the first time an NKU player has
notched 10 or more since Kristen Votapek had 18 assists in the
2005 season.
Doss, working from the right side as a midfielder and occasional
forward, served as a free-kick and corner-kick specialist for
the team.
Doss has tallied assists in six of her last seven games.
Entering the season, Doss had just eight assists in her career.
Mason,
a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, stormed the field for the Norse
early and often, scoring three goals and three assists
in her
first three collegiate games. Mason’s numbers cooled
a bit in conference play, as she totaled two goals and four
assists against
league opponents, but her ball-control skills and command
of the field never faltered, placing her on the All-GLVC
second
team.
Franzen, a senior
from Alexandria, Ky., leads the Norse with a modest six goals on
the
season, a shocking fact considering
the
Norse have
the nation’s ninth-ranked offense at 3.2 goals per
game. Franzen missed the first week of the season due to
injury, but came on strong
once conference play rolled in, as she tallied five of her
goals and all four assists against league teams. The honor
marked the second
consecutive year Franzen has been honored by the league,
as she was a part of the All-GLVC second team in 2007.
NKU
(13-2, 9-2 GLVC) enters the GLVC Tournament as the No. 2
seed, and will host No. 7 Bellarmine in a quarterfinal
match on Sunday
at Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. Kickoff
is scheduled for noon. The winner will advance to the semifinal
round, to be played
on Nov. 7 at the site of the highest remaining seed. |
