INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky University women’s
soccer team learned its postseason fate on Monday when the Norse
were selected to the NCAA Division II Tournament as the No. 3 seed
in the Midwest Region.
The Norse (15-3) will travel to Kenosha, Wis.,
to take on the No. 6 seed Rockhurst in the first round of the tournament
on Friday,
Nov. 14. The winner of that game will advance to take on the No.
2 seed and host Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday. Game times have yet
to be announced.
On the other side of the Midwest Region bracket,
Quincy will face Tiffin, with the winner moving on to face No.
1 seed and undefeated
Grand Valley State.
NKU comes off a 2-1 loss at the hands of Wisconsin-Parkside
in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship. Rockhurst
(10-5-3) fell in the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament
to
Drury, 1-0.
Rockhurst claimed
a 1-0 victory over NKU in the regular-season meeting between the
two
teams. Danielle Boyce scored
the game’s
only goal in the 72nd minute while goalkeeper Alyssa Miller
made three
saves in the shutout. NKU goalkeeper Angela Healy stopped
two shots.
This marks the first time NKU has been named to the NCAA
Tournament since 2005, when the Norse defeated Wheeling
Jesuit, 2-0, before
falling to Grand Valley State by the same score. |
