LEWALLEN EARNS GLVC WEEKLY HONOR
Norse standout named GLVC Pitcher of the Week

Krystal Lewallen

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Krystal Lewallen has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s Pitcher of the Week in softball.

Lewallen, a junior from Crestwood, Ky., hurled five shutouts last week as NKU won 12 games on its spring trip in Florida. Lewallen capped the week by throwing a no-hitter against NCAA Division I opponent South Dakota State during a 6-0 NKU victory.

In that game, Lewallen recorded a season-high 17 strikeouts. A graduate of South Oldham High School, Lewallen is now 10-0 this season and has not allowed an earned run during her last 56 innings on the mound.

For the season, Lewallen has seven shutouts and a 0.29 earned run average. She also has 104 strikeouts in 72 2/3 innings and has allowed just 19 walks.

Lewallen, last season’s GLVC Player of the Year, has led NKU to a 20-0 start and its first-ever No. 1 national ranking. The Norse will begin GLVC play at noon Saturday with a doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan at the Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
