HIGHLAND HEIGHTS,
Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Krystal Lewallen
has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s Pitcher
of the Week in softball.
Lewallen, a junior from Crestwood, Ky., hurled five shutouts
last week as NKU won 12 games on its spring trip in Florida.
Lewallen capped the week by throwing a no-hitter against
NCAA Division I opponent South Dakota State during a 6-0
NKU victory.
In that game, Lewallen recorded a season-high 17 strikeouts.
A graduate of South Oldham High School, Lewallen is now 10-0
this season and has not allowed an earned run during her
last 56 innings on the mound.
For the season, Lewallen has seven shutouts and a 0.29 earned
run average. She also has 104 strikeouts in 72 2/3 innings
and has allowed just 19 walks.
Lewallen, last season’s GLVC Player of the Year, has led
NKU to a 20-0 start and its first-ever No. 1 national ranking.
The Norse will begin GLVC play at noon Saturday with a doubleheader
against Kentucky Wesleyan at the Frank Ignatius Grein
Softball Field.
