HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University’s Jessica Farris was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Farris, a freshman from Independence, Ky., was instrumental in NKU’s 6-2 weekend, including a 4-2 mark in GLVC play. Farris went 13-for-28 at the plate in eight games, blasting a pair of home runs and three doubles while driving in 11 runs and scoring seven more.
Farris drove in six of her runs on Wednesday against Saint Joseph’s, including a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to bring the Norse within one run of taking Game 2.
The freshman scored the game-winning run to take an eight-inning, 1-0 victory against Lewis to complete a doubleheader sweep and cap a 4-for-7 day that included a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two more driven in.
In Sunday’s action against Wisconsin-Parkside, Farris went 4-for-8 with a three-run home run, a double and two more runs scored, including the game-ending run in Game 2, an 8-0 run-rule decision.
Farris collected a hit in each of the week’s eight games to run her season-best hitting streak to nine games.
NKU (24-20, 12-10 GLVC) will take on Tiffin in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday before closing out the GLVC schedule at home on Saturday against Bellarmine. The Norse will honor their seniors in a ceremony during Saturday’s doubleheader. |
