HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- Northern Kentucky University’s Kristin Koralewski has been
awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship of $7,500.
The NCAA awarded 56
postgraduate scholarships of $7,500 each to 28 men and 28 women
who participated in fall sports. Koralewski was one of 11 volleyball
players this year to receive a postgraduate scholarship from the
NCAA.
Koralewski is the sixth
NKU student-athlete in the past six years to receive an NCAA postgraduate
scholarship. NKU’s Michelle Cottrell, Shannon Smith, Kevin
Listerman, Malissa Stevenson and Eva Broeg also received NCAA postgraduate
scholarships during the past six years.
Koralewski, a senior
outside hitter and a native of Muskego, Wis., recorded 559 kills
and 390 digs last season as the NKU volleyball team posted a 22-9
record. Koralewski led the Great Lakes Valley Conference in both
kills per game (4.99 kpg) and hitting percentage (.382) en route
to earning GLVC Player of the Year honors for the second straight
season.
Koralewski finished
her career sixth in NKU history in both kills (1,485) and digs (1,192).
She was a first team All-America selection as a junior and earned
second team All-America honors as a senior.
The NCAA annually awards
174 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes who have excelled
academically and athletically and who are in their last year of
intercollegiate athletics competition.
To qualify for an NCAA
postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall
grade-point average of 3.200 (on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent
and must have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity
team in the sport in which the student-athlete was nominated. The
student-athlete must have behaved, both on and off the field, in
a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution
and intercollegiate athletics.
The student-athlete
also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate
degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.
