ST. LOUIS - Katie Hanck and Katie Kugele scored second-half goals Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 2-1, at the Don Dallas Memorial Soccer Field. Amy Martini and Lindsey Thieken added assists as NKU improved to 8-2-1 overall, 4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are now 44-0-4 against GLVC teams during the past four years. NKU has not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville posted a 3-1 win over the Norse. Hanck gave NKU a 1-0 lead three minutes into the second half when she took a pass from Martini and drilled a shot from 17 yards out past Missouri-St. Louis goalie Courtney Carmody. Kugele added an insurance goal at the 81:44 mark when she knocked in a shot from five yards out. Mary Kate McDermott scored a goal for Missouri-St. Louis at the 87:21 mark to bring the Riverwomen to within 2-1, but the Norse defense allowed nothing more the remainder of the match. NKU owns an 9-1 lead in the all-time series with Missouri-St. Louis (7-4-1 overall, 2-1-1 GLVC). The Norse have beaten the Riverwomen nine consecutive times. NKU will conclude its two-game road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against the University of Southern Indiana. |
