WILDER, Ky. - Kristen Noakes, Molly Eagan and Kendra Zinser each scored goals Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Quincy University, 3-0, in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at the Town & Country Sports Complex. The NKU defense held Quincy to just three shots as the top-seeded Norse improved to 18-0-2 overall and advanced to Sundays noon GLVC championship match against second-seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis - a 1-0 winner over Bellarmine University in the other semifinal Friday. NKU, which is ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, has never lost (12-0 all-time) in the GLVC Tournament. Noakes, a graduate of Dixie Heights High School, gave NKU a 1-0 lead at the 26:01 mark by finishing off a perfect cross from Stephanie Sandfoss. Noakes took the pass and converted a 10-yard shot directly in front of the goal. Eagan upped NKUs lead to 2-0 at the 48:55 mark with a goal that was assisted by both Bessie Black and Carey Hebbeler. Zinser capped the Norse scoring a minute later with an unassisted goal. NKU now has 12 shutouts this season, and the Norse have held their last four opponents without a goal. NKU is now 39-0-4 in its last 43 matches against GLVC teams. The Norse have not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville posted a 3-1 win over NKU. |
