Norse can clinch GLVC’s No. 1 seed with win at KWC

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Molly Eagan netted a goal in the second half Friday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie with Bellarmine University.

Bellarmine took a 1-0 lead early in the second half when Jamie Buerger found the back of the net off an assist from Allison Truttmann. NKU tied the score a minute later on Eagan’s goal, which was assisted by Stephanie Sandfoss and Kristen Noakes.

NKU - ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll for the sixth consecutive week - held a 25-7 advantage in shot attempts, but neither team was able to score in the two overtime periods and settled for the draw. Bellarmine is 12-5-1 overall, 4-4-1 in the GLVC.

NKU is now 14-0-2 overall, 7-0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse can still clinch the GLVC regular-season title and No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament with a victory at Kentucky Wesleyan College at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

NKU is 36-0-4 in its last 40 matches against GLVC teams. The Norse have not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville posted a 3-1 win over NKU.

NKU will enter the GLVC Tournament as the four-time defending champion. The Norse will host a GLVC first-round contest at noon on Nov. 3 at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.
