No. 1 Norse defeat No. 16 Rangers in battle of unbeatens |

KENOSHA, Wis. - Betsy Moore scored a goal and added an assist Friday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated previously unbeaten University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 3-0. Jeanna Martin and Kendra Zinser also scored goals as NKU improved to 11-0 overall, 5-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked No. 1 nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll. Wisconsin-Parkside, ranked No. 16 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, dropped to 10-1 overall, 5-1 in the GLVC. Martin started the scoring for NKU just 42 seconds into the match with a goal that was assisted by Moore. The Norse increased the lead to 2-0 at the 59:20 mark when Moore scored on a breakaway that was assisted by Robyn Withers. NKU sealed the victory at the 73:18 mark when Zinser scored a goal off an assist from Bessie Black. Megan Zalla recorded the shutout for the Norse and had three saves. The Norse are 25-0-2 during their last 27 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000. |
